The largest expansion to date for “Star Wars” MMO.
With E3 in full swing and the entire world on a high of “Star Wars” hype with “The Force Awakens” and “Battlefront 3″ looming on the horizon, it was my profound pleasure to bare witness, sitting in front of my laptop, to the first look at “Knights of the Fallen Empire,” the newest expansion set for “Star Wars: The Old Republic.”
I have been a longtime fan of Bioware’s “Star Wars” MMO, set in the Old Republic era of “Star Wars” lore, first established by the hit RPG, “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” back in 2003. I cannot say enough about “Knights of the Old Republic.” It was the game that made me a gamer and a “Star Wars” fan at the same time. The story telling was beyond perfection and the graphics were top notch for the time. It was and remains the game that every “Star Wars” fan dreams about.
It’s spiritual successor, “The Old Republic,” released in 2011, served to continue the massive conflicts of Jedi verses Sith set 3,600 years before the events of the “Star Wars” films.
“Knights of the Fallen Empire” 1
Now, “Knights of the Fallen Empire” promises a return to the story-driven content that made Bioware famous and has been lacking from SWTOR’s last few expansions. With the rising threat of a new enemy faction in the years following the Great Galactic War, your character continues his/her story with new and returning companions and the promise that this is only the beginning.
The trailer itself shows us a pair of force-using twins, seemingly neither Jedi nor Sith, raised as warriors by a demanding father figure to kick as much ass as physically possible.
One stand out note from the trailer is the young warriors presenting four lightsabers to their master. Longtime fans of the series and the trademark cinematic trailers that make us all wonder why we can’t just have those as a movie, will recognize the lightsabers of Jedi Master Ven Zallow and Sith Lord Darth Malgus, featured in the original “Deceived” trailer for the vanilla game. What this means we do not know, but it’s awesome!
“Knights of the Fallen Empire” 2
– All of it.
– The simple fact that it is another cinematic trailer. We got three of them during the original pre-release months of the game but no other expansion to date has had the honor. Not even my favorite all-time character, Darth Revan.
– A new faction. The galaxy at this time is opening up to the explorers of the Republic and the Empire leaving little left to discover. Just who are these new leaders on the scene. My mind even spun ideas of a resurgence of the Tion Hegemony.
Bottom Line: Bioware seems to be going all out this time and I am simply thankful that we can still get new Star Wars content not centered on the classic and new Disney characters. I’m excited. Time to dust off my Sith Sorcerer.
